Energy Intensity - Clustering, Development and International Comparison
Hašková, Radka
This thesis focuses on theoretical and practical research into the problematics of energy intensity convergence both globally and in subpanels according to the economical development of the countries within the used sample data. Research is performed over 23 periods from 1992-2014 on a sample of 187 countries. The goal is to either prove or disprove the existence of energy intensity convergence, more precisely β-convergence and σ-convergence.
Vplyv monetárnej politiky na konkurencieschopnosť vybraného odvetvia
Bendíková, Monika
The aim of the thesis is to determine the impact of monetary policy on the industry and also to determine the impact on the specific company characteristics. The panel data drawn from the Amadeus database is used for analysis. This is data of approximately nine thousand companies in the period from 2006 to 2015. The exogenous variables are defined as financial and non-financial characteristics of firms and the indicator of monetary policy is defined as three months interest rate, PRIBOR. The endogenous variables are defined as return on assets, return on equity and profit margin. The models will show whether there is a relationship between the central bank´s activity and the prosperity of the construction industry.
Various change point estimation methods
Šimonová, Soňa ; Pešta, Michal (advisor) ; Hušková, Marie (referee)
This thesis aims to give a comprehensive account of some of the most recent methods of a change point estimation. The literature on the change point estimation shows a variety of approaches to deal with this subject. Among them, tests based on the popular CUSUM process, likelihood ratio tests, wild binary segmentation and some of the most recent techniques on the change point estimation in panel data are all covered by this paper. The case of dependent panels is discussed as well. The practical part of the study is focused on application of the wild binary segmentation method on weekly log-returns of the Dow Jones stock index. Firstly, we fit a GARCH model to the analysed time series. We next use the wild binary segmenatation method to detect structural changes in the mean of the original time series. Next, we apply the same method to the residuals from the GARCH fit. We analyse several penalization criteria proposed by previous studies and evaluate their effects on the estimated number and locations of the change points in the given data set. 1
Global Changes in Income Distribution: Causes and Impacts
Jančovič, Pavel ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Břízová, Pavla (referee)
Téma bakalárskej práce: Global Changes in Income Distribution: Causes and Impacts Author: Pavel Jančovič Supervisor: doc. Ing. Tomáš Cahlík CSc. Abstract This thesis examines income inequality in the world. The main subject of investigation is the Gini coefficient, which determines the inequality. To measure the Gini coefficient are used different variables that could be empirically influencing. Econometric analysis consists of 34 countries of the world except Africa. Countries are divided into 5 groups. The measured period is between 1991 and 2011.We use the method of least squares, fixed effects and random effects. After performing regressions, results are commented, the best model is chosen, significant and non-significant variables are stated. We test models for heteroscedasticity, first order autocorrelation of the residuals and normality. Afterwards, we point out possible causes of the results. We refer to the countries in which income inequality is not a problem and reduce or stabilize Gini coefficient on low rate. Also we refer to countries, which has rate of the Gini coefficient, or income inequality increased in measured period.
Živnostenské podnikanie v Českej a ve Slovenskej republike
Marcinová, Alexandra
Bachelor thesis deals with macroeconomic and other economic indicators that have an impact on the number of tradesmen doing business under the Trade Licensing Act. in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The chapter Survey of literature focuses on the history of the business, explains the basic concepts related to business and entrepreneurs, further clarifies Small and Medium Enterprises and closes with explicated trading. The chapter Author's work is divided into two parts. The first part aims to assess the contribution of trades as part of the Small and Medium Enterprises. The second part describes own econometric model based on panel data explaining the proportion of the number of tradesmen per capita in Slovakia and the Czech Republic based on quantitative macroeconomic data obtained from passive observation and qualitative economic data expressed as artificial dummy variables.
